• How many games do you play each season?
Each team plays 6 games per season. The GCCSA plays two seasons per year - FALL and SPRING. Teams are formed in the fall and player placement remains the same for the spring. The registration form and fee covers ONE Season only. If you play in the Fall, you must register and pay to play again in the Spring.  Spring season also includes end of season tournament games (weather permitting).  Your team could play up to three additional tournament games the final weekend of the season.

  • What kind of equipment do I need?
All players MUST wear shin guards during practice and games. The league will supply jerseys. Players must purchase shorts and socks to match the jersey. Soccer cleats are highly recommended but not required. Each player needs a ball, sizes as follows: U6 - U8 Size 3; U10 - U12 Size 4; U13 and older Size 5.

  • How old do you have to be to start playing?
Players must be four years old by 8/01/08.

  • Are their teams for girls only?
Yes, the GCCSA offers girls only teams starting with the U8 division. All U6 teams are mixed teams. On the registration form if you wish for your daughter to play with girls and boys choose the Mixed team designation. If you would like your daughter to play on an all girls team choose the Girls team designation.
  • What is the Underwood Cup?
The team Underwood Cup scoring is a composite of the team skills points (best 8 players), the sportsmanship ratings, and the win/loss points. GCCSA believes that helping a player to grow and develop is the highest priority of the league. Less importance is placed on winning (league games and tournament games) and more importance placed on performing well in individual skills and sportsmanship. Therefore, trophies are awarded during Super Soccer Week for the Underwood competition and not for league or tournament winners. Each of the 3 areas (Skills, Sportsmanship, and Win/Loss) is given different weight when calculating the points for the Underwood Cup competition and multipliers are used to adjust the age groups up (or down) to the average of the U12 group. Individual trophies are awarded to the player with the highest Skills score in each division and team trophies are awarded to the team in each division with the highest Underwood score. Finally the Underwood Cup is awarded to the one team with the highest Underwood score league wide.
  • What skills should we practice for skills competition?
The skills points are awarded for performance in 5 areas: Dribbling, Shooting, Passing, Throw-Ins, Juggling are the specific skills.  Underwood_Cup_Scoring_Summary
  • When do we get our jerseys?
Jerseys are available prior to the first game.  They will be brought to the field prior to your teams first game.  Coaches are responsible for picking up jerseys and distributing appropriate sizes.
  • Where are games played?
Games are played at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs and at Davidson Park in Kings Mountain.
